The start of a new year is always a chance to reset, refocus and bring fresh intention into our lives. 2025 is no exception. Following an outstanding academic year in which the Class of 2024 achieved stellar results, securing Pittwater House a ranking of 49th in New South Wales, the bar has been set high. Principal Dr. Nancy Hillier spoke to Beaches COVERED. about how this year, the school is embracing the theme 'Twenty-Twenty-Thrive.' It's a mindset that will drive students, staff and the community to new heights.
Focusing on Academic Excellence
Our Year 11 students wasted no time starting preparations for their HSC journey, diving into an action-packed two-day retreat. From expert-led study sessions to syllabus insights and marking strategies, they gained valuable tools to set them up for success, while also strengthening bonds through an Amazing Race challenge across Manly. With 18 HSC markers on staff in 2024 and an on-campus Study Centre open until 6:30 pm Monday to Thursday, Years 11 and 12 students are well placed for great academic results. To inspire our senior students, Years 10, 11, and 12 Dance and Drama students attended the 2024 HSC Encore and OnStage showcases, witnessing firsthand the calibre of top-performing works and setting a high bar for their own major projects.
Building Strong Connections for Students and Parents
At Pittwater House, we know that a thriving school community is built on strong relationships. That’s why we kicked off the year with a vibrant 'Welcome Drinks' event, where over 300 parents and staff connected over drinks and canapés, all thanks to the Pittwater House Parents’ Association. Our parent briefings followed, offering key insights into the year ahead, setting expectations, and giving families the opportunity to meet their child’s form or class teachers. Meanwhile, our Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable outdoor adventure in the Illawarra region—surfing, snorkelling, and mountain biking—all designed to forge new friendships and deepen their connection to the school.
Culture, Community, and Creativity
With our swim carnivals in mind, House Leaders welcomed new Year 7 students into their houses, ensuring they were prepped, briefed, and ready to bring their best energy to the competition—house chants and all! And in the world of Performing Arts, excitement is already building for our 2025 Major Production: Mamma Mia! Under the expert direction of our new Co-ordinator of Music, Mr. Todd Hardy, we’re thrilled to have Sally Dashwood and Margi DiFeranti, who both worked on previous professional productions of Mamma Mia! The Musical, lending their expertise. Rehearsals will shortly be in full swing, and we can’t wait to bring the magic to audiences from Wednesday 18 to Saturday 21 June 2025.
As the year unfolds, Pittwater House remains focused on academic achievement, personal growth and a thriving community. Here’s to a year of focus, connection, and endless possibilities.
