After an incredible 30-year legacy at Manly Andrew Boy Charlton (MABC), NS Aquatics has made a big move. They are merging their resources at the Warringah Aquatic Centre (WAC). We caught up with founder and training legend Narelle Simpson to learn more about the transition, what’s ahead and why this next phase is bigger and better than ever.
With 30 years of history at MABC behind them, NS Aquatics has officially turned the page. With the end of their long-standing hire agreement at the pool, the program is now fully based at Warringah Aquatic Centre, and it’s already proving to be a major step forward.
“We were advised by Northern Beaches Council that we’d exceeded the hire agreement threshold,” explains Narelle. “There was no option to renew, which meant we had to move on from MABC. It was definitely a big shift, but it’s opened the door to something even more exciting.”
The move has allowed NS Aquatics to combine forces with Angelo Basala’s existing squad program at WAC, bringing together two experienced coaching teams and creating a streamlined, all-inclusive squad structure for swimmers of all levels.
“It’s a complete program now,” says Narelle. “We cater to everything, surf, open water, water polo, fitness, masters, triathlon, and competitive swimming from juniors right through to age and open nationals. We’re also proud to be training Australian reps across multiple disciplines and age groups.”
Over the past 30 years, NS Aquatics has trained more than 30,000 swimmers. Some have gone on to swim professionally, while others have simply gained lifelong skills and friendships.
“It’s been such a rewarding journey,” says Narelle. “Helping people grow, not just as swimmers but as individuals, has always been the heart of what we do.”
With fresh momentum at WAC, Narelle says the focus now is on building community and continuing to deliver high-quality coaching across all squads.
“What’s most exciting is the sense of unity we’re creating. We’ve got swimmers from all different disciplines training side-by-side. It’s a great environment to share knowledge, encourage each other, and develop as one team.”
Whether you’re chasing fitness, medals, or just want to get back in the pool, NS Aquatics is ready to welcome you.
“We’ve trained more than 30,000 swimmers over the years. That’s a lot of laps, and a lot of growth.” — Narelle Simpson
