Northern Beaches Council is commencing the next highly anticipated stage of the Coast Walk, connecting Newport Beach and the Serpentine through a thoughtfully designed, environmentally sensitive pathway.
The Coast Walk project creates a continuous, environmentally responsible pathway along one of Sydney’s most breathtaking stretches of coastline, strengthening active transport links between local communities and improving access to the surrounding environment.
This latest stage will see the construction of a safe link featuring boardwalks, rest areas with sweeping views, and native plantings to ensure minimal impact and celebrate the natural beauty of the area.
Mayor Sue Heins expressed her enthusiasm for the project’s progress, saying “I am delighted to see the next stage of the Coast Walk get underway. This initiative not only provides a much-needed recreational asset, it offers a modern route away from busy roads while protecting and showcasing our unique coastal environment for generations to come.”
“Each phase of the Coast Walk fosters active transport, encourages healthier, more active lifestyles, and strengthens our social connections by providing dedicated space for walking and cycling. These sustainable transport options are vital for reducing carbon emissions, fostering a cleaner, greener environment, and enhancing social wellbeing.”
This transformative project is a key part of Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and providing accessible, scenic walking routes for both residents and visitors.
“This section of the Coast Walk will further enhance our reputation as a world-class destination for walking, recreation, and appreciating nature. It’s another important step in delivering the Coast Walk vision of linking our communities and providing lasting value for all.” Mayor Heins said.
The Newport to The Serpentine section of the Coast Walk is funded by the NSW Government and construction is scheduled to start in this month and be completed in early 2026, weather permitting.
The Coast Walk between Manly and Newport is complete and future works have been prioritised based on available funding and safety considerations. For more information and updates on the Coast Walk project, visit the
