When it comes to choosing the perfect stone for your kitchen, bathroom, or custom project, selecting beautiful tiles and pavers is just the beginning. At Miller Stone & Co, Founder Nathan Miller is redefining what it means to be a stone supplier, offering not just premium materials, but full project management support that ensures clients get the best possible finish from start to end.
What turns a beautiful stone and tiles into a flawless finished space, and how does your project management make that happen?
Honestly, they are just one piece of the puzzle. I don’t just sell you tiles and pavers and wish you luck. I manage the whole process to make sure every detail is handled properly. It means working closely with your trades, making sure the site is ready, and checking that the finish lives up to the quality of the product. I really dislike seeing quality products installed badly.
Where do things usually go wrong when people try to manage installs themselves? How do you help avoid those issues?
The biggest problems usually come down to communication, or lack of it. I’ve seen beautiful tiles wasted because measurements were off by a few millimetres. People often underestimate how much coordination goes into a perfect finish; it is a stress you can do without when you are building. I make sure the trades align, and double-check everything from substrate preparation to final sealing.
Tell us about the tradies you work with. What makes your network such a key part of delivering a high-quality finish?
I’ve built a network of great, reliable tradies over the years, many here locally on the Northern Beaches. They are great people from all trade backgrounds that I’ve worked with on countless jobs. That relationship referral means better collaboration for my clients, fewer delays, and higher standards.
Stone is only as good as its install. How do you keep everyone aligned on each job?
I’m onsite. I’m in the group chats. I’m speaking with my trades and clients before the stone even arrives. It ensures no one is flying blind. I provide clear communication, flag potential issues early, and follow up on the details others might miss. Everyone knows their role, and we keep the lines of communication open the whole way through.
Can you share a project where your hands-on approach really transformed the outcome?
Recently, there was a high-end project where I organised and supplied stunning Crema Marfil Marble from Spain. Over 2000 sqm was imported for a local project here in Collaroy. There were a lot of moving parts, custom stairs, treads and risers, and custom large slabs. If we’d just handed the slab off to a fabricator and hoped for the best, it would’ve fallen short. Instead, I coordinated everything, from templating to final polish. I even worked directly with the builder and installer to make sure the stone’s veining was showcased properly. The result was incredible.
Don’t leave a premium product to chance. If you’re investing in quality stone or tiles, make sure the finish reflects it. With hands-on project management, clear communication, and a trusted local trade network, Nathan handles every detail so the final result lives up to your high standards. •
