When it comes to stylish, sustainable gifting, new Manly boutique, Funky & Green, has it all. Founded by Molly Linton, whose cult-status woven bags took the UK sailing scene by storm, her latest venture brings affordable, feel-good luxury to the Beaches. We stopped by to talk style, trends and why Molly is championing female-led eco brands.
When Molly Linton stumbled upon a group of women hand-weaving waterproof baskets at a bustling market in Jakarta, she had no idea it would spark a business that now supports over 300 people across two countries. Originally a hit with the yacht set in the United Kingdom’s Isle of Wight, Molly’s designs have always been equal parts beautiful and practical.
“The beauty of the way these women made their bags was that they didn’t spoil when they got wet, like many bamboo ones do,” explains Molly. “We made our first order in 2018 and sold out in six days. They were a hit with high-end squadron women in the UK and soon enough everyone wanted colour-coded bags to match their yachts.”
Fast forward to today, and Molly has returned to her roots in Australia, bringing her passion for conscious design and craftsmanship to The Beaches with her recently rebranded lifestyle boutique, Funky & Green.
“We opened our first store on Darley Road in Manly and recently moved to a beautiful new space on Sydney Road. Everything I stock in the store aligns with my ‘funky and green’ ethos,” she says.
FEEL-GOOD FINDS
The shelves here are full of affordable, sustainable and luxurious gifts for all ages and occasions. Most are exclusive to The Beaches, and even better, every product is proudly designed by women.
Wander around and you’ll find Porter Green’s unbreakable, food-grade silicone wine flutes by two sisters from Melbourne, Jones & Co.’s $40 shell wall art from a Surry Hills artist, Solmates roll-on sunscreen holders, designed by two clever mums from Sydney, and Tolú, a beautiful Colombian beach brand with matching shorts for dads and their boys, made from recycled plastics.
There are retro-style compostable sponge cloths (only $7.95) from Retro Kitchen and candles from CandleXchange, who offers 30% off refills when you return your jar. Both businesses are based on The Beaches.
Funky & Green also stocks Turkish towels by Molly’s husband, priced at just $40. One standout range is made entirely from recycled cotton, repurposed from their own towels to reduce waste and keep textiles out of landfills.
Sitting proudly at the heart of it all are Molly’s iconic woven bags, each unique design sketched by hand and brought to life by her team of weavers in Jakarta. No two are exactly the same, and that’s the charm. With price tags under $99, they’re flying out the door for beach days, boat trips and as stylish storage solutions in kids' bedrooms.
Whether you're hunting for a beautiful gift, something eco-conscious, or want to support female-led brands, Funky & Green is a breath of fresh air and fast becoming the go-to spot for locals who love stylish things that are also good for the planet.
