David Lee: A New Season

Where across the course of your day today, could you consider where it might be that you’re ready to emerge from winter and begin creating a new season in your life?

Spring has arrived in Australia.

The mornings are becoming lighter, the days are becoming longer and the warmth is beginning to return.

However, spring rarely announces itself with one dramatic transformation.

It begins with a little more light, slightly warmer mornings, a new bud appearing on what looked like an empty branch, and the faint smell of my favourite fragrance; jasmine, in the air

Nature reminds us that renewal is usually gradual before it becomes visible.

The same is true of our lives.

We often wait for a dramatic breakthrough before believing that change has begun. We expect to wake up completely motivated, entirely healed, suddenly confident or instantly clear about what comes next.

But personal spring may begin with one small decision.

One earlier night, one morning walk, one honest conversation, one boundary established, one application submitted, one workout completed, or one page written.

Spring is often associated with growth, but growth isn’t the only work performed during this season.

Gardens must also be cleared, dead branches must be pruned, weeds must be pulled, soil must be prepared, and seeds must be planted.

What we remove can be just as important as what we begin.

The calendar can declare that spring has arrived, but it can’t clear your clutter, repair your relationships, rebuild your fitness or plant your next project.

Spring offers the conditions for renewal, but we must still participate in it.

You don’t have to produce the flower today; you simply need to begin creating the conditions in which something better can grow.

While you’re thinking about that, think about this and have a Gr8 day!

Be well,
DL

“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest.”
Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)
