Summer is in full swing on the Northern Beaches, and January is shaping up with plenty for families to enjoy.
Northern Beaches Council is rolling out a line-up of free and family-friendly events in the lead-up to the Australia Day long weekend, celebrating everything locals love about summer by the sea.
Mayor Sue Heins said the new year is the perfect time to come together and enjoy what makes the area such a great place to live, from outdoor movies and pool parties to hands-on coastal experiences.
One of the highlights is a FREE Open Air Cinema on the eve of Australia Day at Pittwater Rugby (Rat) Park. Families are invited to bring a rug, enjoy a picnic or grab dinner from food trucks, and settle in under the stars for a relaxed summer night out.
Sunday 25 January, gates open 5.30pm, movie starts 6.30pm. Free tickets, bookings essential.
On Australia Day, aquatic centres across the Beaches will be buzzing with activity.
• Warringah Aquatic Centre, 9am–12pm, with inflatables, a DJ disco and glitter tattoos.
• Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre, 1pm–4pm, featuring indoor and outdoor inflatables, face painting and a DJ.
Free entry at both locations.
Throughout January, Kids on the Coast at the Coastal Environment Centre in North Narrabeen offers fun, educational adventures for budding scientists. Guided sessions explore marine ecosystems, rock platforms and lagoons, with bookings required.
Northern Beaches Libraries and the Manly Art Gallery & Museum are also running school holiday programs and exhibitions across the month.
