The Warriewood Clinic That Takes the Time to Check Every Spot. You're towelling off after a morning swim and catch it in the mirror. A spot on your shoulder, darker than you remember, the edges not quite even. You tell yourself you'll get it looked at. That was last summer.
Life on the Beaches is lived outdoors. Salt, surf, school sport, Saturday mornings on the sideline. It all adds up. Australia has the world's second-highest rate of melanoma, and around two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70.
The earlier a skin cancer is found, the simpler it usually is to treat. Yet the referral, the waiting list and the rushed appointment all give you reasons to put it off. Every season you wait is another season of sun on the same skin.
Northern Beaches Skin Cancer Clinic in Warriewood was set up for exactly this. No referral is needed. Its accredited doctors focus on skin, and they give your check the time it takes to be done thoroughly.
Each check uses state-of-the-art imaging, including DermLite dermoscopy, which lets the doctor look beneath the surface of a spot rather than judge it by eye. If something needs attention, the team can diagnose and treat it in the clinic. They also look after moles, skin tags, sun spots, scars and other cosmetic concerns.
The clinic was founded by Dr Julie Argent, who spent two decades as a rural GP, working across obstetrics, anaesthetics and surgery, before devoting more than 21 years to skin cancer medicine. She holds a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer from the University of Queensland and accreditation with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia.
She leads a team with real depth. Dr Penny Yelf completed dermatology registrar training at the Skin and Cancer Foundation and St Vincent's Hospital and has more than 20 years in early diagnosis. Dr Greg Cusick has performed thousands of procedures since moving into skin cancer medicine in 2010. Dr Candy Kwan grew up on the Beaches and now cares for the community she was raised in.
Between them, they bring decades of experience to every appointment, and one simple priority: your wellbeing.
No referral needed. Appointments Monday 9am to 5pm and Tuesday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm.
