Urban Beat – Brookvale Breweries & Distilleries

Breweries: Drink in the atmosphere, sip the good stuff,  and feel Brookvale's Urban Beat.

Nomad – The OG is Back

Photography: Nomad Brewing Co.

Since 2014, Nomad Brewing Co has been pouring its heart into the Beaches craft beer scene from its home on Sydenham Road in Brookvale. Now under new ownership and entering a freshly energised chapter, the Nomad taproom remains one of the most welcoming spots in the suburb to pull up a stool,
try something new and stay longer than you planned.

Walk into Nomad's taproom on a Saturday afternoon and you'll understand immediately why this place has endured. The beer garden fills fast, sixteen taps are running and there's an energy here that's hard to manufacture. It's a local that actually feels like one.

Nomad has been part of Brookvale's transformation from industrial suburb to one of Sydney's most interesting creative precincts. It was here in 2014, when craft beer on the Beaches  was still finding its feet, and it has watched the neighbourhood grow up around it.
The pioneers who showed up first made it worth the trip.

A New Chapter

In 2025, Nomad entered fresh territory. New owners Pete and Elena took the reins and the result is a taproom that feels reinvigorated without losing any of the unpretentious character that made it worth coming to in the first place.

"What drew us to Nomad? Simply put, legacy and possibility. As the oldest independent craft brewery on the Beaches, Nomad already held a special place in the heart of this community. For us, the opportunity to preserve that heritage while breathing new life into it was impossible to resist. Add to that a vision for art, culture, and events wrapped in warm hospitality and exceptional craft beer," says Elena.

Their philosophy is straightforward: quality ingredients, traditional brewing methods and a willingness to experiment. The staff know their list well enough to point you toward it.

On Tap Right Now

Nomad takes its drinkers on a tour, with beers named after breath-taking places across the globe. The tap list runs from a crisp West Coast IPA (Pier 39) to a New Zealand Pilsner (Good Shepherd), a Pale Ale (Beachcomber) and three Stouts for those after something with more weight. The Monsoon IPA has been drawing attention with a Silver Medal from Untappd and a Bronze at the AIBA awards in 2026. This winter, look out for Salem, a limited release New England IPA that lingers long after the glass is empty.

Dip IT food truck and live music on weekends. Happy hour Wednesday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm, with schooners at middy prices and house wines at $8 a glass.

The brewery precinct that Brookvale is now known for has become a weekend destination in its own right. Nomad Brewing Co has earned its place at the centre of it, and it's just getting started. Bring friends. Come for the beer. Stay for the second round.

4 Pines – Brewed Here, Loved Here

Photography: 4 Pines Brewing Co.

Brookvale has a rhythm to it. Forklifts humming, tanks bubbling, pints hitting tables and mates settling in for "just one" that turns into a full arvo. Right in the middle of it all sits 4 Pines Truckbar: the beating heart of where the beer gets brewed, poured and properly enjoyed. If Manly is where the 4 Pines story started, Truckbar is where it keeps rolling.

Fresh From the Source

Walking into Truckbar should feel familiar, even if it's your first time. Cold beer, honest feeds and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to settle in for another round. With the brewery right there on-site, you're drinking 4 Pines exactly how it's meant to be: fresh as hell, full of flavour and poured by people who genuinely love the craft. From core favourites to small-batch drops and limited releases, this is where their beers hit different, literally metres from tank to tap.

More Than What's in The Glass

Truckbar has always been about more than what's in the glass. It's the local where knock-offs turn into catch-ups, where families roll in for long lunches, where dogs park up in the beer garden and where you're just as likely to run into your neighbours as your next best mate. The team behind the bar are part of that same community, the kind of crew who remember your go-to order, ask how your week's been and genuinely care that you're having a good time.

“Truckbar has a habit of turning quick pit stops into stories you're still talking about next weekend.”

Showing Up for the Locals

Backing the local community isn't a side project; it's built into who 4 Pines are. From grassroots sport and local legends to live music, fundraisers and community events, Truckbar is all about showing up for the people who make Brookvale what it is. Whether it's supporting the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, Harbord FC, Harbord United Devils and the Manly Wolves, or teaming up with nearby businesses and creatives, they're proud to be part of the fabric of the Beaches.

As a B Corp certified, 4 Pines is committed to leaving things better than they found them, from reducing waste and supporting circular initiatives to pushing for more sustainable hospitality practices. Truckbar is a big part of that mission, giving locals another reason to feel good about where they're pulling up a stool.

Always Something On

Trivia nights that get way too competitive, packed-out live sport, brewery tours, fresh releases, live tunes and those random afternoons that somehow become all-nighters. Truckbar has a habit of turning quick pit stops into stories you're still talking about next weekend.

At the end of the day, Truckbar is about connection: good beer, good people and a place that brings everyone together. It's where the 4 Pines story keeps evolving, one fresh pint at a time.

If you're a local regular or just rolling through Brookvale, grab a stool, order a fresh one and make yourself at home. Because Truckbar isn't just where they brew beer. It's where 4 Pines lives.

7th Day Brewery – Turn Up the Volume

Photography:  Summer Lewis @sumstarrstudio

Brookvale was already worth the trip. 7th Day made it a destination. Born from a crowd-funded dream, this is the Beaches' most celebrated original live music venue, and one that's earned a reputation well beyond its postcode.

The numbers tell part of the story. Over 300 live performances last year. A Good Day Out Festival that now draws crowds from across Sydney. A title, Sydney's hub of original live music, that the venue wears without ceremony.

But what makes 7th Day work isn't the accolades. It's what happens on the stage.

Original live music is back on the Beaches, and 7th Day is leading the charge.

Friday and Saturday nights belong to local indie bands playing original songs, undiscovered acts that, as the venue puts it, you might just tell your kids about one day. Saturday afternoons shift into DJ sets. Sundays ease off with cover acts and a beer garden built for lingering.

The stage itself is something to see. Built out with care and designed for performance, it's the kind of setup that makes bands want to play well and crowds want to come back. Crowd surfing, for the record, is not unheard of.

The beer is award-winning and brewed on site. The pizza, from neighbour Sale Pepe, is the kind you think about the next day. And the vibe – loud, warm, a little unpredictable – is exactly what a great night out should feel like.

A big night on the dance floor or a lazy Sunday in the beer garden, 7th Day does it right. Check the gig guide on socials and see you there.

Dad & Dave's Brewing – We Make Beer. Delicious Beer.

What started as a passion between a father and son has grown into something the whole family is part of. At Dad & Daves, the beer is excellent and the story behind it is better.

John (that's Dad) and Dave are both qualified brewers with decades of hospitality between them. But the operation runs deeper than two. Mum, Jess, Scott and James are all in on it, keeping the beers flowing, the taproom ticking and the whole thing feeling exactly as it should: like a family business that genuinely loves what it does.

The approach is straightforward. Traditional malt, hops, water and yeast, with just enough creative thinking to keep things interesting. Old-school values, new-school innovation, and one goal that hasn't shifted: beer that puts
a smile on your face.

The taproom on Mitchell Road reflects all of it. Relaxed, welcoming, and anchored by what the team will happily tell you is Brookvale's best beer garden. Kids, dogs, mates who talk too loud, all welcome. Pair your pint with something from the food truck and you've got yourself an afternoon.

Come find your new local. Dad & Dave's, Mitchell Road, Brookvale.

Bucketty's – Everyone's Welcome Here

Photography: Bucketty's Brewing Co.

Brookvale's brewery district has a lot going for it. Bucketty's makes sure there's something for everyone.

Bucketty's doesn't try to be one thing. It's a laid-back daytime hang where families and mates can settle in for a long lunch, then shifts into a full-blown live music venue once the sun goes down. Big indoor and outdoor spaces mean there's room for whatever kind of visit you're having.

Seventeen taps with a rotating lineup that changes with the seasons, plus ciders, Aussie wines, spirits and cocktails for the non-beer contingent. The brews are award-winning and served in pint or half pint. Your call.

More than 1,000 gigs in and live music still runs three to five nights a week, with a packed calendar of local and emerging acts spanning everything from acoustic sets to full bands. Check the gig guide at buckettys.com.au and pick your night.

The food truck handles lunch, dinner and kids' meals, so no one gets left out.

One insider tip worth taking: when the next cold snap hits, order the Mulled Ginger Beer. You won't regret it.

Before you head in, check the live line cam on the website.

See you in Brookvale.

Freshwater Brewing – Keeping it Real. Keeping it Fresh.

Photography:  Freshwater Brewing Company

Opened in 2021 with a simple idea: take the fuss out of craft beer and just make something great. five years on, Freshwater Brewing Company is still doing exactly that, and now it's stepping into its next chapter.

People, Culture, Beaches and Beer

Freshie started as a group of mates who cared as much about community and good hospitality as they did about the beer. That balance hasn't shifted. Proudly independent, built for locals and unapologetically laid back, the brewery has grown from a Brookvale taproom into a recognised name across Sydney's venues and bottle shops, without losing what made it worth talking about in the first place.

In practice, that means a big bright space, pub classics on the menu, a kids' cubby, dogs welcome, live music, weekly trivia and happy hours that actually make sense.

Something Big is Coming...

Freshie is getting a refresh. From June 8, the Brookvale taproom is undergoing a full renovation.

It's a major investment into the next chapter of the brewery.

New team members Sam and Lachy bring fresh energy at exactly the right moment, alongside expanded offerings, new beer releases and a refreshed venue. The laid-back atmosphere that built Freshie's reputation will remain very much intact.

Doors reopen in July 2026.

While the taproom takes a short break, Freshie beers keep pouring across local venues and bottle shops. Watch this space. •

Noble Craft Distillery – Craft, Community & A Great Martini

Photography:  Noble Craft Distillers

Great spirits start with great instincts. At Noble Craft Distillery, they're made by bartenders who spent years behind the bar before deciding to build one of their own. From small-batch gin distilled on site to a bar and restaurant that feels like the neighbourhood's living room, this is a place where craft and community meet at the same table.

Founded by Amir Halpert and Julian Noble, Noble Craft was built from years of hospitality experience stretching from New York to Sydney, and that background shapes everything, from the spirits to the space. This was never a distillery that added a bar as an afterthought. The two were always meant to be one.

Every spirit produced at Noble Craft is distilled in-house with a clear brief: balanced, textural, and genuinely enjoyable to drink. The flagship gin was nine months in development, tested relentlessly in the format it was always destined for: the martini.

"A classic London Dry at heart, but with enough citrus, spice and floral botanicals to make a stirred, super-cold martini feel layered and extremely sippable," says Amir Halpert, Co-Founder & Distiller.

The art of the cocktail, as they say here, starts with the craft of distilling.

"Distilling your own spirits on site and serving them metres away means the guest gets a drink with a stronger sense of provenance and a more memorable experience overall," says Amir.

Rossco's Bar, named in honour of a dear friend and mentor, sits within the distillery itself, separated by nothing more than a few steps. A respected figure in the world of wine, Ross made every room better for being in it, generous with his knowledge, his stories, and the occasional exceptionally rare bottle.

"Naming the bar in his honour felt not just fitting, but essential," Amir says.

The menu leans into pub classics with a Mediterranean influence.

"Underneath the tahini, spices and pickles, it's still familiar food, just with some additions and a sense that you're getting something you can't at every other venue on the strip," he says.

"We wanted Noble Craft to feel like a community living room. Somewhere you can bring your kids, your dog, your parents and your mates without feeling out of place," he adds.

The value at Rossco's is real. Bottomless menus, happy hour, kids eat free on Sundays, and $25 burger and drink deals that make an end-of-week dinner feel like a good decision.

"The deals are there to look after locals, but the non-negotiable is that what lands on the table still tastes like something we're proud to put our name to," says Amir.

Noble Craft offers guided tastings, gin blending sessions, and private events for groups of up to 120. Birthdays, engagements, team offsites and product launches have all found a home here.

"People get that private feeling without losing the buzz, the cocktails, or the personality of the space," he says.

Noble Craft also has its eye on what comes next. Whisky and fruit brandy are quietly maturing in barrels, on their own schedule.

"We see Noble Craft as part of Brookvale's next chapter, holding onto that gritty, industrial DNA while giving locals a more grownup place to eat and drink," he adds.

When those barrels are ready, they'll arrive at Rossco's as the next chapter, not a moment before.

The gin is ready. The martinis are cold. Rossco's is open. Book a table, bring the group, or just walk in and let the distiller pour you something worth remembering.
