In Balgowlah, business feels more like friendship. It’s the warm smiles from neighbours, the coffees made just right by local baristas, the bargains found across the road at Lifeline, and the camaraderie of borrowing a product from a fellow salon when stock runs low. For Jesse Griffiths and Sally Carson-Gray, this sense of community is at the heart of their shared salon space.
Friends since their twenties, Jesse and Sally now run their own boutique salons side by side. Jesse’s R.A.E Hair Studio, short for Real Authentic Energy, brings a fresh and dynamic take on hairdressing. Alongside her, Sally’s Halo Hair Studio, proudly established in 1996 and owned by her since 2018, has been a trusted local favourite for decades.

Between them, they specialise in natural-looking colour results, blondes, hair extensions, keratin treatments and curly cuts. What makes their business unique isn’t just technical skill, but the atmosphere. The salons are kind, caring and relaxed, more like spending time with friends than a trip to the hairdresser.
“Our aim as stylists is to deliver skilled and creative colours, extensions and styles to you in a warm, genuine salon space. We are continuously striving to produce outstanding results, personalised to suit you, in an environment that we love.”
At Halo and RAE, it’s about more than just hair. At its core, it’s about friendship, both between Jesse and Sally, and with every client who walks through the door.
