If you’ve spotted the Modus logo on taps, bottles, event banners, or your mate’s backyard esky, you’re in good company. What started as a small local spot in Mona Vale has grown into one of the biggest names in Australia’s craft beer scene. With some of the country’s best brews coming from The Beaches, Modus is undeniably leading the pack.
Modus Founders and Owners, Jaz and Grant Wearin, had a plan — leave the corporate lives behind and build something real. Their journey began in a motorhome, travelling across the USA, brewery by brewery, learning the craft firsthand. That same hands-on passion for doing things properly still runs through every drop they make.
“Since we opened in 2014, the local support has been amazing,” Jaz says. “What started with three people has grown to 60 across two breweries, including our state-of-the-art brewery in Merewether, Newcastle, that opened in 2021. We never imagined we’d get this far, but thanks to hard work and the community, we’re still here doing what we love, making beer to share with everyone.”
The Modus brewery in Mona Vale runs on 100% green energy and keeps the good times flowing with 16 beers on tap, including the crowd-favourite, Modus Pale Ale, and the easy-drinking Modus Cerveza. Every pour lives up to their motto, ‘Beer First, No Shortcuts,’ with fresh flavour and serious care in every sip.
The brewery space has that industrial charm mixed with beach-town chill. The beer garden is where you want to be, with fresh beers, margaritas, slushies, live music, and a rotating menu of burgers, nachos, salads, and pizzas. It’s a spot for mates, families, and even your four-legged friends.
Whether you’re a craft beer fan, just starting out, or after a relaxed and welcoming spot to hang in the arvo, Modus Mona Vale delivers an experience that’s laid-back, full of flavour, and seriously good fun.
