Over the last three decades, Seaforth's Harvey Galleries has established itself as a creative community where local legends, rising stars and international icons share the spotlight. An amazing space for collectors, or anyone who loves getting lost in a world of colour, this place always has something special to spark your imagination.
Gallery owner Trevor Harvey has a knack for discovering talent before the rest of the world catches on. The Galleries' recent Graduate Awards exhibition proved just that, showcasing stunning works from National Art School graduates, including the quirky sculptures of Eleanor Wickens, the intricate copper etchings of Matthew Lorrimer, the bold, futuristic 3D creations of Sophie Victoria, and the striking terracotta totems created by Chrystie Longworth.
The annual Harvey Galleries' National Art School Exhibition Award was established to recognise and reward excellence among MFA and BFA graduates. The award offers selected graduates the opportunity to engage with the inner workings of a successful commercial gallery. Open to all disciplines, including Printmaking, Painting, Drawing, Photomedia, Sculpture and Ceramics, it provides a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent in a professional setting.
At its heart, Harvey Galleries is committed to showcasing, supporting and uplifting new talent. “It’s incredibly important to nurture emerging and local artists,” says Trevor. “Giving them a platform to showcase their work not only helps their careers but also brings fresh energy to the art world. Seeing them grow and thrive is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”
“ART SHOULD BE EXCITING AND UNEXPECTED, AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WE AIM TO PRESENT.”
Speaking of talent, Beaches COVERED.’s local Winter 2024 cover artist, Ben Ross, is also gearing up for an exhibition at our favourite Seaforth gallery. Ben’s work oozes that effortless coastal cool that he's stamped around the local scene with vigour. His upcoming show, Love at First Sight, is going to be a must-see – don't miss it.
Harvey Galleries isn’t just about local talent; it’s a gateway to the world of art. From Australian greats to rising stars and even a touch of whimsy, courtesy of Dr. Seuss, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The Art of Dr. Seuss at the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD, presented by Harvey Galleries, makes for a fantastic day out.
“WE ARE QUITE ECLECTIC IN WHAT WE BRING TO THE BEACHES.” – TREVOR HARVEY
Looking ahead, there’s even more to get excited about. This September, Mitchell English is bringing his signature beachy hues to the gallery. Soaked in sunshine and nostalgia, it’s a collection that feels made for our Beaches. Could it be a contender for our next cover? Watch this space!
