Good Day Out Returns to Brookvale

Good Day Out Returns to Brookvale

Two stages. Eleven bands. Pizza, face paint and a raffle for a surf trip to Sumatra. And it won’t cost you a cent.

Brookvale’s free music festival, Good Day Out, is back at 7th Day Brewery on Saturday 28 November, bigger and louder for its second year. From midday until late, the brewery turns into a two-stage live music takeover with 11 bands plus DJs, and every dollar raised goes to Surfers for Climate.

Big Day Out, Beaches Style

The idea belongs to 7th Day Brewery’s Joel Ridzuan, who grew up on Big Day Outs, Splendours and Good Vibes and wanted to bring that same mischief and mayhem home to the Beaches. The name pulls triple duty: a nod to Big Day Out, to The Good Kids, who curate the line-up each year, and to the good cause behind it all.

Good Times for a Good Cause

Last year’s first Good Day Out drew more than 1,600 people and raised over $20,000 for Surfers for Climate. This year the target is $30,000.

“We’ve been lucky enough to be part of a real shift in Sydney’s live music scene over the last 18 months. Hats off to the 24-Hour Economy team, Sound NSW, Minister John Graham and everyone who’s helped pull Sydney out of its long sleep. Good Day Out is our contribution to that momentum, a free event we hope people will be talking about for years, and it’s for a brilliant cause,” said Joel.

A Line-up Worth Paying For (But You Don’t Have To)

Curated by The Good Kids, this year’s bill is being called one of the strongest free gigs the Beaches has seen in two decades. One description sums it up: a $150 ticketed festival line-up, for free.

THE LINE-UP
The Good Kids, Beaches core lords and curation brains trust
Surf Trash, Lake Macquarie
Goons Of Doom, Aussie surf-punk, rock ’n’ roll icons
Good Sniff, Victoria
The Darrans, Beaches rock ’n’ roll dummy halves

The Blamers, Sydney garage rock punksters
The Bleeding Lizzards, genteel matinee rumblers
T.F.O.E., South Coast grungesters
Scatterlight, Beaches psych pop lords
Bingo Night, gnarly nepo Beaches icons
Plus DJs throughout the day

Bring the Grommets

Good Day Out is all ages until 8pm (under-18s with a guardian), then 18+ into the night. From midday there are face painters, balloonists, an ice cream stall, kids’ arcade machines and a free photo booth, the Pash Cam. Fuel up at the all-day pizza kitchen and coffee bar, then browse Boarders Skate Shop merch, the Gravey Lane boardies pop-up and World’s End DIY Sunglasses.

Raffle tickets are worth grabbing too. The main prize is a Secret Sumatra surf trip, with plenty more prizes on the table, and all proceeds go to Surfers for Climate.
