Glen Street Theatre Renewal

Glen Street Theatre Renewal

Glen Street Theatre will undergo a significant auditorium renewal from January to April 2027, as part of a multi-year investment program designed to enhance the audience experience and future-proof the venue for generations to come. The project will include the replacement of the theatre's auditorium seating and house lighting, creating a welcoming and contemporary environment for audiences attending performances, events and community activities.

The auditorium renewal represents the next stage of a series of major upgrades to the venue, following the completion of a state-of-the-art LED stage lighting upgrade in 2025 and a comprehensive sound system upgrade in 2026.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the project was an exciting milestone in the venue's ongoing evolution.

“Together, these investments ensure Glen Street Theatre remains one of Sydney's premier performing arts venues, equipped to deliver exceptional experiences for decades to come. Glen Street Theatre has been bringing audiences together for more than 40 years through outstanding live performances and shared cultural experiences. This auditorium renewal is about ensuring our community can enjoy the very best experience from the moment they enter the venue until the final curtain call.” Mayor Heins said.

The seating has faithfully served audiences for 20 years and be retired for new seating that will provide improved accessibility options and increased capacity, while the upgraded house lighting will enhance the overall auditorium atmosphere, safety and visitor experience.

The works have been scheduled during a planned closure period from January to April 2027 to minimise disruption to the theatre's annual program and hirer activities.

Northern Beaches Council's investment in Glen Street Theatre reflects its commitment to maintaining high-quality arts and cultural infrastructure for the community and supporting the continued growth of the performing arts on the Northern Beaches. The renewal also sets the stage for an exciting new chapter, with Glen Street Theatre's 2027 Season to be unveiled in January 2027.

“When the curtain rises again next May, audiences will return to a refreshed auditorium and a program packed with major productions, acclaimed artists and blockbuster events.

“We can't reveal everything just yet, but we can promise there are some very special shows waiting in the wings that you won't want to miss!” Mayor Heins said.
