Colormaker has saved over 900 tonnes of GHGs powering paint production with its 100 kW solar array
GET TO KNOW COLORMAKER
While traditional paints and inks rely on fossil fuel energy and harmful chemical formulations, Colormaker has taken an alternative path. Six years ago, they installed 100 kW of solar that powers their entire manufacturing operation and delivery fleet and commissioned the first ReVolv® solar storage battery, crafted from nine second-life EV batteries, to store excess solar energy for use during peak times. This pioneering system has made Colormaker almost entirely energy self-sufficient.
“There’s a little bit of sunshine in every drop we make” says Colormaker MD, David Stuart.
Colormaker Industries has been making paint in Brookvale for nearly 68 years and last month was recognised for its sustainability efforts when it was selected as a finalist in the 2025 NSW Sustainability Awards (The Banksia Awards). They also received a Community Recognition Statement by James Griffin MP for this achievement.
HEALTHIER PLANET, LOCAL BUSINESS
Environmental leadership at Colormaker extends beyond energy. They’ve reformulated most of their products to remove harmful substances such as plastic microbeads known to pollute waterways and damage aquatic life. Most of their paints are now water-based and low VOC, offering safer alternatives for end users and the environment.
They also responsibly manage waste by repurposing cardboard and paper, recycling scrap metal and e-waste and treating wastewater to exacting standards… and best of all, they’re local.
