Ahh... The Beaches. You salty dream. You surfer’s paradise. You greet grommets and old salts alike, with rolling shoulders and the occasional thump. Some days, you’re soft and cruisy, others wild and roaring. Each wave tells a new story, and each session is a reset. We paddle out, chasing stoke, and you never disappoint. You are a rhythm, a ritual, a way of life. And the adventure… It always starts here.
On Easter weekend 2025, local charger Tom Myers paddled into what many were calling ‘the wave of the year’. A monster at the Queensie Bombie that had jaws dropping from shore to lineup. Some now call him ‘The Kelly Slater of Freshwater’. Read on as Tom relives the magic of that epic ride.
“The swell that day started like any other – me, frothing on Surfline, checking every 20 minutes. I went to check Queensie Bombie from Freshie headland with my mate Kai, and it was too big for the beachies. All the boys were heading out. That was the spot.
“I had a pretty bad sinus infection and took some meds, so the plan was to play it safe and not come out with any injuries.
“I picked off a few fun ones. Then that wave came, and all the plans went out the window. It just looked too rare. I was seeing this thing bowling up, and I was in the perfect spot. I took three or four strokes to get into it.
“I was cruising down, and then the bottom turned. Luckily, it pitched so hard I could squeeze under the lip. Two of my mates, Max and Sammy, were on the shoulder, and when I was in the pit, I could hear them screaming – they were willing me to hang on. I couldn’t see a thing. It was a white out. Then I was in the channel, and the boys sprint-paddled down to me.
“We were hugging and pinching ourselves. It was super special to have those two blokes there because they're some of the best big wave riders in the world. There’ve been some really nice messages from people I have a lot of respect for which means the world to me. My friends and family all seemed really proud which made me happy.”

THE WARRIEWOOD BOMBIE
A solid paddle out and not for the faint-hearted, but when it’s on, this reef break delivers heavy, glassy walls that’ll get your heart racing.
LITTLE NARRABEEN (LITTLE NARRA)
Just around the corner from the main break, Little Narra can serve up sneaky A-frames and fun peaks, often with fewer crowds and a more relaxed vibe.
SOUTH PALMY (CABBAGE TREE)
Accessible by beach trek or boat, this wave breaks off Palm Beach’s southern headland. Wild, remote, and often worth the mission.
