She’s been winning New Zealand Music Awards since 1996. She was the youngest ever inductee into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. Her voice has been described as “crystalline” and her melodies as “timeless.” Who else could we mean but the legendary Bic Runga?
Famous for tracks such as ‘Sway’ and ‘Drive,’ not only does the Christchurch-born artist write and sing her own songs, but she produces and arranges them too.
With a Chinese-Malaysian mother and a Maori father, Bic Runga’s heritage both ties her to the land she calls home, and gives her global relevance. Growing up with an independent and determined spirit, the artist taught herself drums, piano and guitar, crafting herself into a multi-talented musician.
And on February 13, 2026, she’s stepping into a new horizon with the release of her latest album, Red Sunset. Recorded during a winter in Paris, the album thoughtfully and gently explores the beauty of the human world.
Its lead title track, ‘Red Sunset’ is out now, co-produced with longtime collaborator Kody Nielson. Featuring slow drums, humming bass, glimmers of synth, electric piano and ethereal vocals, the track has a fresh, funky sound with a timeless message, delving into the longing and desire of being the one left behind. Turning tender personal moments into shared experiences is Bic Runga’s specialty, inviting listeners into a moment of understanding and escape. The music video compliments the raw emotions perfectly, with cinematic sunsets and close-ups of Bic Runga, her face bathed in red light.
Beginning in New Zealand, her tour will travel across the country before jumping over to Australia, where she’ll take the stage at Sydney’s City Recital Hall on Sunday, April 12. Audiences can expect new music from her latest album alongside favourites from ‘Sway’, ‘Beautiful Collision’ and more.
Tickets are available now – why wait? Bic Runga’s voice will transport you to a place of simplicity and grace, guaranteed.
You can see Bic Runga at the Sydney city Recital hall on Sunday 12 April 2026.
