Barrenjoey Artwalk 2025 | 29 November – 14 December
This summer, Avalon Village once again transforms into an open-air gallery as the Barrenjoey Artwalk returns for its second year, a vibrant celebration of art, community and coastal creativity.
From 29 November to 14 December, over 30 local retailers will turn their shopfronts into mini galleries, showcasing the work of talented Australian artists. It’s a free, self-guided trail that invites you to wander Avalon’s streets, discover new talent and experience art in unexpected places, all set against the relaxed charm of Sydney’s most laid-back beachside village.
Proudly organised by the Barrenjoey High School P&C, the Artwalk celebrates local art, community spirit and coastal culture.
“Last year’s Artwalk was such a highlight for our school and community,” says Brett Blaker, Principal of Barrenjoey High School. “It’s a wonderful way to celebrate creativity and connection — our students, parents, artists and local businesses all play a role in making it something truly special.”
Art Meets Coastal Cool
The Artwalk is the perfect excuse for a day out in Avalon. Grab a coffee, stroll the village, browse the boutiques and take in an incredible collection of Australian art. Each piece is for sale — with 70% going directly to the artist and 30% supporting Barrenjoey High School.
“This event is a real reflection of Avalon’s creative spirit,” says Claire Dwight, President of the Barrenjoey High School P&C. “It’s relaxed, inspiring and shows how much our community values both the arts and our local school.”
Featuring Reg Mombassa, Wendy Sharpe & Phil Meatchem
This year’s Artwalk brings together an impressive lineup including Reg Mombassa, Wendy Sharpe and Phil Meatchem, each known for their distinct style and contribution to Australian art.
Mombassa, a celebrated painter, illustrator and founding member of Mental As Anything, brings his instantly recognisable, witty and nostalgic imagery to Avalon’s streets. Sharpe, one of Australia’s most awarded contemporary artists, adds bold expression and colour. Local favourite Meatchem, known for his evocative coastal landscapes, rounds out a collection that promises something for every art lover.
Double the Cultural Celebration
Running alongside the Deep North Festival (6–7 December), the Barrenjoey Artwalk adds to an extended celebration of arts and culture on the Northern Beaches. While the festival brings two days of live music and performance, the Artwalk offers two full weeks to explore visual art at your own pace.
“This partnership creates something really special,” says Amber Marsh from the Artwalk Committee. “Festival-goers can extend their experience, and art lovers get time to explore at leisure — whether it’s a quick browse or a long, lazy afternoon.”
