Clontarf Beach is a large sandy foreland on Middle Harbour, about 5 kilometres from the Heads. It has a swimming enclosure and tidal pool for calm water swims, with no surf to worry about.

The reserve behind it is built for family days: a playground, a cafe, BBQ areas, picnic tables, toilets, showers and drinking water. It gets busy on weekends and holidays.

Go on a weekday morning to beat the crowds. The beach is not patrolled, so keep an eye on kids.
