WED 24 SEP - 22 OCT | The Palms | Group Exhibition

24 September - 22 October

The Palms is excited to announce its first group exhibition, featuring:

Sophie Taggart

Sophie Taggart is a South Coast-based artist whose vibrant, layered works are known for their warmth, colour and quiet emotional presence. Her practice blends painterly expression with handwritten reflections, creating artworks infused with intention and energy. Each piece is a gentle invitation to reach for a thought that feels good - a simple shift that can transform the energy of a moment.

Guided by an interest in natural healing modalities and the subtle influence of words, Sophie’s canvases evoke both stillness and vitality. Whether through large-scale commissions, intimate drawings, or collaborative projects with designers and spaces, her works carry the same aim: to connect, calm, inspire, and empower.

Samantha Mackie

Samantha Mackie is a Sydney based artist who predominantly works with porcelain to create delicate work driven by linear forms and familiar textures used in unexpected ways. She holds a Diploma in Ceramics and was selected as Diploma Graduate of the year 2024. Some of her pieces take the form of abstract grids; others explore the linear rhythms of landscapes and built environments. She also enjoys using her process to produce fine, but surprisingly robust, functional porcelain objects.

All pieces are formed from fine porcelain slabs, built up through hundreds of brushstrokes and the works are generally left unglazed to highlight the innate beauty of porcelain. The firing process subtly distorts each piece, making the balance between her intent and the kiln’s unpredictably an essential part of the final form. Samantha’s work has been selected for the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize 2020, Little Things Art Prize 2019. Most recently her Gridline series was selected for the Ravenswood Art Prize 2025 and was awarded highly commended in the 2025 Corner Store Gallery Mini Series Art Prize.

Lucy Hookway

Lucy Hookway is an Australian-born ceramic artist based in Sydney. After a career in hospitality and public relations, Lucy transitioned to ceramics, a passion she discovered later in life. Embracing the role of a stay-at-home mother, Lucy followed in her own mother's footsteps, dedicating time to various crafts while raising her three daughters. Throughout her life, Lucy has continuously explored and refined her skills in different crafts. Her creative journey includes weaving, shibori and textile art.

These hands-on experiences allowed her to engage actively with her children while still being able to pursue her artistic interests. Six years ago, Lucy embarked on a new creative adventure: ceramics. She enrolled in a beginner ceramics class at Northern Beaches TAFE, igniting a profound love for the craft. Last year, Lucy completed her Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey. Lucy is captivated by the constant learning and endless possibilities ceramics offer. Her work, primarily produced using slip casting, reflects a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative design, creating pieces that are both timeless and contemporary.

Opening Night 24 September 5:30-7:30pm. To attend the opening night with drinks, canapés and live music, RSVP via email.
