The COVERED. Cocktail Championships will be held over four (4) rounds at four (4) separate venues:
Round 1 - Monday 30th September 2019

TIME: Potential Bus pickup in Manly CBD at 6:30PM for 7:30PM start

Round 3 - Monday 21st October 2019
LOCATION: Hugos Manly
Manly Wharf, 1 East Esplanade, Manly

Round 4 - Grand Final - Monday 28th October 2019
LOCATION: Manly Spirits Distillery Co.
4a/9-13 Winbourne Rd, Brookvale

Rules of the Competition
Categories:
Professionals: 2 years as a bartender or above
Apprentices: 0-2 years as a bartender
Venues can compete as a team or as an individual
Venues can have contenders in both categories
Venues can have up to two teams or contenders per category
The Championships - Overall Point Score
Each Round will consist of 3x separate challenges, where by points will be awarded by the judging panel for drinks created in each challenge.
Contenders will go up against each other in 3x person head-to-head battles.
Professionals: 1x cocktail per challenge based on the theme of the
Round / Venue.Apprentice: 1x cocktail per challenge based on the theme of the
Round / Venue.
The Theme & Challenges
All four events have a theme which dictates ‘Style and Creativity’ around the Cocktails.
The Contenders will be emailed & posted on Social Media the Cocktail Challenges for the next event on the Tuesday before the next round. They then have a week to perfect their cocktails, making a fair playing field for all competitors.
Equipment, Alcohol & Mixes
Manly Spirits Co. & Danes Cold Brew will be available at all 4 rounds to be utilised in Contenders Cocktails if you would like to use these ingredients.
There will be various cocktails challengers that these products will be compulsory to utilise.
All other equipment, pre mixes, alcohol, elements are to be brought along by the Contenders in a crate for easy transition into and out of the bar competition area.
Cocktail Glasses and Ice will be made available at the venues.
Scoring
Three (3) hospitality-industry Judges will be awarding points per heat, per challenge, at all rounds.
Points will be awarded on three (3) criteria.
Taste & Balance of Flavour – Overall taste mix, layering and pairing of ingredients
Total 40 pointsSpeed – First to finish in the head-to-head battles, within time limit, 1st : 20 points; 2nd:10points; Last: zero points. If you go over the 2.5minute timer you will lose 10 points.
Total 20 pointsPresentation / Cleanliness – Visual look of the cocktail, mixing performance, dress, how the equipment is handled as well as the design of the drinks - 30 points. Second element: how clean the mixing area is on presentation of the drink - 10 points.
Total 40 pointsTOTAL SCORE OUT OF 100 POINTS
Accumulating Points
At the end of an event round, the 3x challenge points will be added up as a score that will carry over to the next Round of the overall event.
The Contender with the most points at the end of the 4th Round will win the overall Championships in the 2 categories.
The 4th Round will also include 1x Bonus ‘Double Points Challenge’ for opportunities to over-take competitors by doubling up.
Total scorable points per Challenge = 100
Total scorable points per Event, first 3 events = 300
Total scorable points Grand Final Event = 400
Total scorable points overall Championships 1300 points
(inclusive of the double point challenge)
Strict Time Limits
Contenders will be given a strict time limit of 5 minutes per round.
From entering the Bar Competition area, you have 1.5 Minutes to prepare.
The ‘Clock timer’ will then sound and the clock timer will then start, you then have 2.5 minutes to mix and present your drink.
After presenting you then have 1 minute to clean down, pack up and leave the bar area for the heat of competitors. Outside this time will result in 10-point penalties.
To make the competition flow and finish in a set time we have to stick to this system.
Round and Event Nights
Outside of the ‘Overall Point Score’:
Each Venue will end their night with a Semi Final in both categories and a Final to determine the Winners on the Event Round nights.
The Top 4-point scores on the night will go into a sudden death Semi-final where by the two (2) winners of the semi-final will battle the final out for the win on the night.
No additional points will be won here, only bragging rights for that Round and venue prizes.
